Princess Mako is a member of the Japanese imperial family, the first child and elder daughter of Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko. Mako is not marring a prince, but rather is in love with her long time university boyfriend Kei Komuro. They were supposed to exchange vows two years ago but the wedding was delayed by Mako’s mother. As required by law, she is at risk of lose her title formally and become a commoner if she marries Kei Komuro. After the marriage, Mako will become the ninth female member of the family to marry a commoner since the passage of the Imperial Household Law.
