Tom Hanks gave two brides a shock when he hilariously asked ‘where’s the groom?’ while crashing their wedding on Santa Monica beach during the weekend – before quickly realizing his error.
The 65-year-old Oscar winner accidentally walked into the wedding ceremony and asked to take a photo with the bride and groom, only to realize it was a same-sex marriage. Guests at the wedding event burst into laughter when the actor questioned, ‘where’s the groom?’
After realizing his error, Tom shouted, ‘Oh get out, my stock just exploded!’, before posing with the two brides, Diciembre and Tashia Farries, for a photograph.
The newlyweds, who admitted they still face some homophobic prejudice, later praised the actor for ‘not batting an eyelid’ over their union.
The two brides were having their wedding ceremony on Santa Monica beach with friends and family in attendance. However, as the event was wrapping up, Tom decided to surprise the couple.
Tashia and Diciembre later recounted in an interview that they were shocked to see the actor when everyone was saying, ‘There’s Tom Hanks!’
Video footage on the beach shows Tom being lightly touched to discover that it was a same-sex wedding after asking guests where the groom was.
In the video, some of the couple’s guests could be heard explaining to their younger ones who Tom was. One woman could be heard telling her son that Tom was ‘Woody from Toy Story, while another referenced Castaway.
Tom had been watching the wedding ceremony from a distance and was deeply touched by it that he decided to approach the couple afterward. According to Tashia, Tom approached them because he thought the ceremony had to be one of the most beautiful ceremonies that he’s ever seen.
After taking pictures with the newlyweds and their one-year-old son, Tom gave them some ‘positive words’ and told them to ‘keep the love alive,’ Tashia recounted. She also added that Tom’s presence at their wedding ceremony also added a tiny bit of validation to their union.
