Cops in Florida were monitoring Brian Laundrie before he slipped away amid the probe into Gabby Petito’s disappearance. However, they admitted Brian’s case is full of “oddness.” Josh Taylor, a North Port Police Department spokesman Josh Taylor, told NewsNation in an interview Friday:
“We’ve said from the beginning there’s a lot of oddness here, a lot of things that just didn’t make sense. I mean, your son walks out there — now they’re saying on a Monday — to report that on a Friday and then be confused on what day that was. There’s a lot of things that are odd there.”
Brian’s parents initially claimed their 23-year-old fugitive son left their house on Sept. 14 after telling them he was going for a hike at the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve, where investigators have been searching since Sept. 18.
Brian’s parents Chris and Roberta Laundrie, waited three days to report him missing, telling cops that their son left the house on Sept. 14. However, the Laundries attorney Steven Bertolino said in a statement last week that the family had made a mistake regarding the date their son left the house. Bertolino said Brian actually left the house on Sept. 13.
Before his disappearance, Brian refused to cooperate with authorities who sought to question him after his 22-year-old girlfriend, Gabby Petito, was reported missing. Brian had returned home from their cross-country trip without Gabby on Sept. 1. He left home on either Sept. 13 or 14, according to his parents. Gabby’s body was found at a Wyoming campground on Sept. 19.
Florida cops have since come under fire for letting Brian, the sole person of interest in Gabby’s case, slip away. However, Taylor insisted cops were watching Brian closely and did what they could to the best of their abilities.
“What I’ll say to that is that we were doing everything within the law that we could with the facts and the circumstances at that time,” Taylor said. “What I’ll say is that that is … something that we’re working to figure out as far as how he got away.”
Moreover, Taylor said It’s possible for Brian to still be alive.
