UK based plus size model Georgina Horne has taken to her Instagram page on Monday to talk about how there is no secret to weight loss and how you can live your life as fully as you can right now.
Georgina shared a series of photos alongside a long Instagram post with her 329 thousand followers with the caption: What’s the secret to weight loss?! Spoiler: there is no secret! Georgina wrote:
“Everybody who loses weight does it in a completely different way to the next person with varying degrees of success with regards to how long they keep it off for, how their headspace changes around their food and their body, and how many times they have to go through that process before they either admit defeat or find happiness. “
“The secret is to not let weight loss be the only thing that you actively pursue. The secret is to not tell yourself that certain foods are or aren’t allowed or are or aren’t good for you or are healthy choices or happy choices. The secret is to live your life as fully as you can right now.”
“The secret is to stop depriving yourself of food groups or labeling yourself or the food as ‘naughty’, or feeling guilty because you really wanted chocolate and so you had chocolate. The secret is to stop thinking that people who have lost weight have done so for good and ‘healthy’ reasons, and that they have some ancient secret that you haven’t yet heard of.”
“The secret is to stop thinking that weight loss and being thin is the only way to be happy. The secret is to stop telling people how guilty you feel because you’ve gained weight because you’ve indulged, to stop following weight loss accounts, to stop following people who make you feel like having a certain percentage of body fat makes you a bad person.”
“This isn’t an anti-weight loss post – far from it. There is nothing wrong with a healthy happy headspace around making a change to your body that you truly want. But stop asking people what their secret is – there is no secret. There is no quick and easy fix. There is no new trick or tool.”
“The desperation to find something new, something different, something long-term is going to drive you up the wall. Make choices that are sustainable, make choices that don’t fuck up how you might feel if you have a bit of cake, make choices that mean that you can still enjoy something that brings you joy, make choices that are for you, not for how society views fatness.”
“Make choices that make your head happy. Make choices that mean that you don’t have to slag off your body at every opportunity.”
