A Travis County, Texas judge who often presides over drinking and driving cases was busted over the weekend for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Deputies made contact with Judge John Lipscombe, who was elected in Travis County in 2011, in a North Austin hotel lobby shortly after midnight on Saturday, Fox 7 Austin reported. According to the outlet, Lipscombe told deputies that he “had a couple of drinks at his house but not even to get messy.”
Deputies responded to the scene after witnesses said that Lipscombe attempted to back into a parking space that already had a car in it. Following an altercation, the judge reportedly drove around the lot and parked in a handicapped space before entering the hotel.
Lipscombe told responding officers that he had two double shots of rum and coke while at his home, but refused a field sobriety test due to an injured ankle, according to Fox 7.
In the state of Texas, driving while intoxicated is deemed a class B misdemeanor. At the time of his arrest, Lipscombe had more than two dozen DWI cases on his docket for Tuesday, according to Fox 7 Austin.
