Tennis legend Serena Williams penned a moving tribute to her “selfless friend” Meghan Markle after watching her revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday.
The 39-year-old American professional tennis player in a tweet on Monday, called the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle her “selfless friend” who leads by example with empathy an compassion.
Here is the message Serena penned to her long time and true friend Markle in regards to what the racial abuses she has faced in the UK.
Williams also shared the screenshot on her Instagram page with a caption that reads: “I am so proud of you for being so brave. I know it is never easy. You are strong- both you and Harry. I love you. I adore you. Your friend Serena.”
In the comment section of the post, actress Viola Davis gave a thumbs up to William for standing by her friend: “YES!!! Truth is brave because there is an enormous deficit out there. Beautiful standing by your friend.” Davis wrote.
Williams became friend with Markle after they first met at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami. Ever since then, the two friends continued to show support to each other, including both participating in the DirecTV Beach Bowl in 2014, and Meghan Markle traveling to New York in 2019 to watch Williams play in the US Open.
Like Meghan Markle, Princess Diana has faced intense scrutiny from the British tabloids and the British royal family. She died at the age of 36.
