FBI agents believe they found the body of the 22-year-old girl, Gabby Petito, who went missing during a cross-country traveling with her boyfriend. After combing through a camping area, human remains that appear to be Petito’s were found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest by the FBI.
According to FBI agent Charles Jones, a forensic review will be conducted to verify Petito’s remains. However, the FBI office in Denver didn’t provide the specific location where Petito’s body was found or what clues led to the discovery. A cause of death was not immediately clear, said Jones. Moreover, Jones extended his heartfelt condolences to Petito’s family for the difficult time they are currently passing through.
Meanwhile, a search is underway for Petito’s boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. In July, Petito, and boyfriend Brian Laundrie, 23, began their cross-country expedition in a van, planning to tour national parks and arrive in Oregon late next month. However, Laundrie came returned home alone with the van but without his girlfriend.
Petito’s family then filed a missing person report on September 11 after not hearing from their daughter since late August. Laundrie has been described as a person of interest in the case by the Police. When reached Laundry’s family for comment about Laundrie’s whereabouts, the family said their son himself was missing.
Laundrie was last seen by his family on Tuesday. According to his parent, Laundrie packed up a car and told them he was going hiking. His car was found the following day near the Carlton Reserve by family members. Authorities, on Monday, continue searching for Laundrie. Officers have covered a vast hiking ground for any sign of Laundrie. All-terrain vehicles, scent-sniffing dogs, and drones aided the search.
To provide a scent for the search dogs, Investigators took some of Laundrie’s clothing from his parents’ home.
