In order to send her children to heaven, an Arizona mother shot her two little kids multiple times, one fatally. According to the cops’ report, the mother told her kids she wanted them to go to heaven before shooting them.
The 24-year-old woman, Esther Callejas, fatally shot her 2-year-old daughter at point-blank range. When her second child, a 6-year-old boy, tried to escape, Callejas fired “at least” three shots at him. The shooting took place in their Phoenix home on Monday, Fox 10 Phoenix reports.
After shooting the boy, Callejas, in an attempt to kill herself, struggled to reload the gun but failed. She then called her husband and her sister-in-law to inform them of her crime, according to court documents obtained by Arizona’s Family.
Police said they received a call from the woman’s husband, who told them that his wife called him and admitted to killing their children. A second call also came from the man’s sister, who also stated the same thing.
By the time officers arrived, they found the girl unresponsive on the floor next to her mother. The boy was also found on the floor crying and bleeding from the head and torso.
The two children were taken to a nearby hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. Her brother remains in critical condition, police said. During an interview with Phoenix Police officials the following day, Callejas admitted she shot both of her kids because she wanted them to go to Heaven. She told detectives she planned on killing herself after, but she was unable to reload the gun.
Callejas faces charges of murder and attempted murder. Her bond is set for $2 million.
