A Pennsylvania man is accused of entering an elementary school in Monroeville on Tuesday under false pretenses and then videotaped a female student in a bathroom.
The 26-year-old accused intruder, Brian Mintmier, arrived at the Ramsey Elementary School in Monroeville Tuesday afternoon, a criminal complaint reviewed by WPXI alleged. Mintmier approached the main entrance asked an employee in charge of screening visitors if he could use the restroom.
Once allowed to ease himself unaccompanied, Mintmier gained access to a hallway restroom where he spent almost an hour, according to William Short, Gateway School District superintendent.
While Mintmier was still in the restroom, a 10-year-old female student ran to school officials and reported that she was in a restroom stall when she looked down and saw someone holding a cellphone under the stall and recording her, according to the criminal complaint. School security members removed Mintmier from the restroom and held him in the school office until cops arrived, according to WPXI.
Deputies found a box cutter on Mintmier.
In a letter to parents, Short said Mintmier gained access to the school under false pretenses. The employee who granted access to Mintmier has been placed on leave pending an investigation, Short added. “This egregious error in judgment is against school district policy and procedures,” Short said.
Mintmier is now facing numerous charges, including invasion of privacy. According to court documents, he was denied bail.
