A Pennsylvania police officer sadly passed away after being stung by a bee in October last year. He was surrounded by family and colleagues.
Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner announced that Allen passed away surrounded by his family and friends.
“Officer Allen will be deeply missed by not only his family, but by his brothers and sisters in law enforcement and our community,” said Gardner. “Although he fought long and hard, he ultimately could not overcome the damage done to his body as a result of the reaction. “
According to the Hatboro Police Department, officer Ryan Allen had joined the development in 2013 and served as a patrol officer, and was a member of the Montgomery County Drug Task Force. Allen will be remembered in the community for being the force behind the department’s first K9 unit. Allen, who often used to be seen with his K9 partner, Louis, was a well-known figure in the community.
Officer Allen was stung by a bee in October 2021 and suffered a severe reaction as a result.
“There was something in his voice. He’s never scared. In our 10 years together, he’s never sounded like that, so I knew something was wrong,” explained Whitney Allen, Officer Allen’s wife.
He was transported to Doylestown Hospital and was later flown by helicopter to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he remained for months after suffering complications from the reaction.
Allen had a heart attack after the sting in October and suffered a devastating brain injury.
He was honored with a procession to bring him home under hospice care in March. Funeral arrangements will be announced by his family after they are finalized.
Allen left behind a wife and two sons.
Following her husband’s death, Allen’s wife, Whitney Allen, shared a heartbreaking post on Facebook.
“I will miss you until the end of my days, my sweet boy, Whitney wrote. Thank you for the most magical and happiest 10 years of my life. Thank you for our two beautiful boys. I will raise them to be men that you would be proud of. Please watch over us and send us signs that you’re here with us. Until we meet again. I love you.”
