We thought we knew Paris Hilton. We were wrong. This is the untold true story that shaped the woman, and the iconic character she created. Paris Hilton’s documentary is a must-watch for any trauma survivor.
Ahead of the release of her documentary “This is Paris,” the socialite, 39, claimed she was physically, mentally and emotionally abused at a boarding school, but had kept it a secret until now.
“I buried my truth for so long,” Hilton told People. “But I’m proud of the strong woman I’ve become. People might assume everything in my life came easy to me, but I want to show the world who I truly am.”
She is a survivor. A thriver, despite the indisputable trauma she had suffered, which has followed her her entire life and career.
And that’s why every survivor needs to watch this documentary — because she’s exactly like us.
At age 16, Hilton spent one year at the Provo Canyon School, a therapeutic boarding school for emotionally troubled teens. While attending, Hilton claims that she was abused, both mentally and physically by staff. Hilton details the abuse she faced at Provo Canyon School in her documentary This Is Paris.
Hilton and others from the school recalled being restrained, forced to take medication, put in solitary confinement, and hitting and strangling them. She attended the school for 11 months, from 1998–99, when she turned 18.
Hilton has appeared on the cover of numerous magazines, including Vogue, Maxim, FHM, Elle, Entertainment Weekly, and Nylon. Critics indeed suggest that she exemplifies the celebutante—a celebrity not through talent or work, but through inherited wealth and lavish lifestyle.
Hilton has parlayed her media fame into an eponymous brand, which includes 19 product lines, 50 boutiques worldwide, and a club resort in Manila, Philippines. Her perfume line alone has brought in over US$3 billion in revenue to date.
Variety named her its “Billion Dollar Entrepreneur” in 2011. Hilton earns over US$10 million a year from business ventures, and as of 2017, she was paid about US$300,000 for appearances in clubs and events.
Hilton is known for her love of small dogs, and has had a female Chihuahua named Tinkerbell among many other pets. Hilton was frequently seen carrying Tinkerbell (dubbed an “accessory dog”) at social events and functions, and in all five seasons of television reality show The Simple Life.
