Authorities have captured the Tennessee man wanted in the murder of rapper Young Dolph on Tuesday in Indiana, while another suspect was indicted on murder charges.
A grand jury indicted 32-year-old Cornelius Smith on first-degree murder in addition to other charges in the fatal shooting of rapper Young Dolph in his hometown of Memphis, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said. Smith is being held without bond.
The U.S. Marshals Service said 23-year-old Justin Johnson was arrested separately after a murder warrant was issued for him earlier this month. The agency did not disclose the exact location in Indiana where Johnson was found.
On Nov. 17, rapper Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was fatally shot in a daylight ambush at a popular cookie shop. He was 36.
Law enforcement officials said they would hold a joint press conference on Wednesday to provide additional details on the arrests.
Known for his depictions of tough street life, Young Dolph had previously survived multiple shootings. In September 2017, Dolph was shot multiple times after a fight outside a Los Angeles hotel. His SUV was shot at more than 100 times in Charlotte, North Carolina, in February of that year. That was the inspiration for the song “100 Shots.” Dolph later said he survived the 100 shots because he had bulletproof panels in his vehicle.
Young Dolph’s murder stunned Memphis and shocked the entertainment industry. He was remembered for his charitable works in Memphis.
