Two suspects are in police custody following the murder of 49-year-old Bradley police Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic.
The two suspects were both apprehended on Friday after a search of nearly 36 hours, according to police. Both suspects were linked to the fatal shooting of the veteran Illinois police officer on Wednesday.
Bradley police Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic was fatally shot in the shooting. Her 27-year-old partner, Officer Tyler Bailey, is still in a hospital and in critical condition, according to FOX 32 of Chicago.
Marlene and her partner were shot on Wednesday while responding to a noise complaint at a resident in Kankakee County, south of Chicago. Unfortunately, Marlene died in the shooting.
Following the tragic and sad incident, law enforcement officers tracked the suspects down to Indiana. One of the suspects, Darius Sullivan, 25, the alleged gunman in the shooting, was busted on Friday morning at a Manchester home, FOX 32 reported.
A 19-year-old Daniel Acros, another occupant of the Indiana home, was also taken into custody, according to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have also confiscated weapons and drugs at the scene.
The second suspect, Xandria Harris, 26, in connection to the shooting, turned herself in to Illinois police around 4 p.m. Friday, FOX 32 reported.
Authorities are making arrangements for Sullivan’s extradition back to Illinois, where he will face charges of murder and attempted murder, according to the station.
In addition, two other suspects, Bryce Baker, 20, and Joshua Adams, 26, were apprehended in Indiana in connection with the case. These two additional suspects were arrested after authorities searching for Sullivan spotted them in a wrong-way-driving vehicle in Rochester, Indiana, FOX 32 reported.
According to the police report, Baker and Adams’s possible connection to Sullivan is under investigation.
