A North Carolina man has been arrested after deputies said he threw Molotov cocktails at two churches during services on Sunday. The perpetrator targeted Gray’s Creek Church and New Calvary Missionary, both in Cumberland County, on Sunday, WTVD reported.
A video of the attack outside the New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church was captured by a surveillance camera. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office shared the video on its Facebook page along with photos of the suspect’s car.
The video shows an individual getting out of a vehicle and throwing what appears to be a water bottle towards the steps of the church, and a flame ignites soon after it lands.
Investigators told WRAL that both churches, which are 10 miles apart, were targeted within 30 minutes of each other.
The suspect, identified as Terry Raeford, was apprehended on Monday and is now facing multiple charges, according to deputies who said he is cooperating with their investigation, WNCN reported.
A trustee of Gray’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church told reporters that Sunday school was in session when the explosives were thrown and that it sounded “like a shot.” Church officials told reporters that they don’t know what motivated someone to attack them.
