Mineola, New York —Rapper Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, was reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver on Long Island, police reported on Sunday. Robert Maraj, 64, was spotted walking along a road in Mineola at 6:15 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a hit-and-run driver who did not wait. Nassau County police reported.
Minaj’s father was immediately taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead the following day. The 38-year-old rapper is yet to make any public statement about her father’s death. The driver took off immediately after the incident before neighbors could get a clear picture of who was behind the wheel, police reported.
However, CBS New York has spoken to a witness who lives right in front of where the incident happened.
“We just saw a jacket ripped open, cut open, trying to make sure the man had a pulse,” she said. “All I hoped for was the person to have a pulse and survive. I’m speechless. I don’t know what to say.”
Police are investigating the crash, but want more witnesses to the fatal crash to come forward.
