Like any newly engaged woman, Bailey Kenworthy wanted to break the news of her engagement from the rooftops of New York City. However, she made a mistake thinking New York City would give a crap.
Unable to contain her joy, 24-year-old Bailey Kenworthy, from Texas, shouted out of an apartment window: “I’m engaged, New York!” She posted the video on TikTok last week.
The response Kenworthy received for her joyous was to keep quiet.
A cyclist can be heard yelling at the newly betrothed woman to “Shut the f–k up!”
“I love it here,” Kenworthy jokingly said to the camera.
The now-viral video, captioned “The nicest city,” has received more than two million views with over 300,000 likes.
“I love that my video is blowing up,” Kenworthy told The New York Post. “I enjoy when others laugh at my jokes,” she added.
The official Duolingo account commented on Kenworthy’s video, saying, “That translates to congrats, sis,” referencing the tough love of New York. Another person also commented saying “That’s a New Yorker’s way of saying congratulations.”
Kenworthy, who works as a patient service specialist for the University of Texas Medical Branch’s COVID Urgent Care, and her fiancé, Miguel, 28, were engaged while on vacation in Manhattan.
“He played it off by putting our camera on a bench and was like, let’s record ourselves posing. “As we’re posing, he then did it,” Kenworthy said of her boyfriend, who caught her by complete surprise.
While the engagement is still new, the couple has already planned for their wedding, potentially in November 2023, if COVID permits.
