A New York City man was arrested for reportedly slashing her girlfriend’s throat on Friday. The mother of two was found dead days after she told her family members she was afraid of her boyfriend, according to police.
Police arrested Nashan Walsh, 35, on Saturday and charged him with murdering his 37-year-old girlfriend, Bjana James, who was found by one of her relatives with the fatal wound inside her Bronx apartment, police said.
James’ family members told the New York Post on Saturday that the slain woman told them in the earlier week about her boyfriend’s strange behavior and how she was scared of him. According to the relatives, they could not reach James on the phone on Wednesday night.
She basically was texting her [relative] the day it happened like, ‘I’m scared. He’s gonna kill me. I’m scared for my life. He is bugging out,’” a cousin, who gave her name as Shelly, had told The Post.
He left the house. She wrote back… ‘He’s here, he’s back,’ and ever since she wrote that we didn’t hear from her again.”
By Friday, worried relatives decided to check up on James at her residence. Upon arrival, James’ apartment door was left open, and after entering, her brother discovered the grisly scene.
James’ mother, Stacey James, told the Post she wasn’t aware that her daughter was in a domestic violence relationship. However, Stacey said that she noticed a change in her daughter when they got together. James wouldn’t come to see her children like before, Stacey added.
James leaves behind two children, a 12-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl. The two children were living with their maternal grandmother at the time of their mother’s tragic demise.
