A New York City man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught on video battering a 77-year-old victim on a Bronx sidewalk in broad daylight earlier this week.
The 35-year-old attacker, identified as Edgar Wilson, a Bronx resident who lived just a few blocks away on College Avenue, was busted and charged with attempted robbery and assault in connection with the attack, the NYPD announced Wednesday evening.
Footage shared by the NYPD shows Wilson punching the victim in the face, throwing a drink at his head, and then kicking him while he’s down.
The disturbing incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in front of 1299 Grand Concourse in the Bronx when the suspect and the 77-year-old victim became involved in an apparent altercation that escalated into a physical assault, authorities said.
In the video, the older man, who is using a cane, is seen talking to the suspect on the sidewalk. The suspect then punches the older man in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The suspect is then seen throwing a cup full of liquid at the victim’s head before stomping him in the face. The victim told cops that the assailant attempted to rob him, but investigators said nothing was taken. He was treated at St. Barnabas Hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect fled the area on foot and was later apprehended.
