A Florida prosecutor believes more severe charges are coming for fugitive Brian Laundrie if investigators find him alive. Dave Aronberg, a Palm Beach County State Attorney, in a statement on Tuesday, said that Sarasota County’s lawmakers are likely to file additional, more serious charges against Brian due to the various procedural rules imposed upon them. Aronberg told NewsNationNow during an interview Tuesday.
Aronberg told the outlet that all Florida defendants are entitled to a speedy trial. In other words, the state has just 180 days to present the case of an individual against whom formal criminal charges were filed at trial.
As searches are underway for Brian, prosecutors are just waiting for him to be captured, Aronberg said. While Brian’s parents refused to speak with detectives handling the case, his sister, Cassie Laundrie, said she has a message for her fugitive brother. In an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Cassie urged his brother to turn himself in.
Aronberg also noted that Petito’s cause of death may be released soon. He also talked about the possibility that Brian’s parents may face arrest. However, the state has not developed concrete evidence against the parents to bring forth criminal charges.
In an interview with Dr. Phil on Tuesday, Gabby Petito’s parents also urged Brian Laundrie to turn himself in as they insist he’s hiding somewhere and living off the land.
