Prosecutors in Missouri have decided not to file criminal charges against a St. Louis man who reportedly tried to carjack a parked police patrol car with two cops still inside.
After the 27-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Saturday, the St. Louis police department sought to charge him with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action in addition to resisting arrest.
According to the St. Louis Dispatch’s report on Monday, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office declined to file charges saying the case is still under investigation. When asked why charges weren’t filed, Attorney Kim Gardener declined to comment.
On Saturday morning, deputies responded to a shooting report at around 3 a.m. in the city. The cops said they were inside the patrol vehicle when the suspect stood by the passenger’s window and pointed a gun.
According to the two officers, the suspect took off after realizing it was a police car. The two officers then called dispatch and described the suspect, who was busted in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. Police found a gun on the suspect.
The suspect, whose identity was not revealed, is facing other previous charges, including domestic assault, violating an order of protection, and first-degree property damage, according to 5 On Your Side.
