Cops say they have safely located the Florida girl who disappeared after telling a classmate she was being followed. Searchers say the girl simply wanted to skip school.
Port St. Lucie officer began searching for 15-year-old Saige Stiles after she called a classmate and told her someone was on her tracks on her way to school early Monday.
The worried classmate immediately called the police and fears mounted after searchers found Stiles’ cell phone and backpack abandoned on the sidewalk.
Police units launched a search for Stiles in the area and located surveillance footage that showed the teen walking behind houses.
Stiles was eventually found safe by a member of Florida’s Treasure Coast Guardian Angels chapter approximately ten hours after placing the troubling call to her friend.
Cops told a local outlet that Stiles was likely just playing hooky. She reportedly told searchers who found her that she seemed nervous and said she was missing.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about if she was a runaway. It doesn’t matter if she is in danger, the only thing that matters is that she is home safe with her family,” Guardian Angel Michael Lincoln-McCreight told ABC 25.
“During follow-up interviews, detectives learned Saige had a plan to skip school yesterday and at this time there is no evidence to support that she was being followed by someone,” the Port St. Lucie Police Department said in a statement.
