Ethan Crumbley reportedly brought ammo to Oxford High School the day before the horrific shooting – and school administrators were well aware of the shocking red flag but failed to act accordingly, according to a lawsuit.
The lawsuit also alleges that the 15-year-old suspect brought a bird’s head in a mason jar filled with yellow liquid into his bathroom at the Michigan school just three weeks before the Nov. 30 shooting, according to the Detroit Free Press report.
Other students who saw the bizarre display reported it to school officials. However, they allegedly ignored its significance. School officials subsequently assured students and parents in an email that the school wasn’t under any threats, according to the suit filed on behalf of some of the victims.
The day after the ammo incident, Ethan allegedly shot four of his classmates dead and wounded seven other people, including a teacher.
Ethan also posted a threatening message, of which school officials were also aware, on Twitter the day prior to the shooting that read: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. See you tomorrow Oxford,” the suit alleges.
The suit claims that school leaders should have reported Ethan to Child Protective Services after learning about the bullets and the disturbing social media post.
The principal reportedly threatened to report Ethan the day before the shooting but didn’t follow through, the suit alleges.
The suit claims the school’s alleged missteps “accelerated” the massacre.
“(The principal) excited Ethan Crumbley by pulling him out of class, warning him that Child Protective Services might be called, thereby encouraging Crumbley to accelerate his timetable for murder,” the lawsuit says.
In a recent interview, attorney Nora Hanna told the Free Press that the school was on alert about Ethan, and there are a million things that they could have done,” Hanna said.
