The Michigan school student, who opened fire on his classmates and teacher at his Oxford High School on Tuesday, has been identified as 15-year-old sophomore Ethan Crumbley.
Crumbley, who is currently in custody at a juvenile detention center, is accused of killing four of his classmates and injuring seven others when he allegedly opened fire.
Investigators said the 9mm Sig Sauer Crumbley used in the shooting was purchased by his father just four days earlier on Black Friday.
Crumbley had posted photos of the weapon on his Instagram page in the lead-up to the deadly school shooting, the sheriff said.
Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the deadly shooting because the teenage shooter refused to speak to them. However, some classmates told the Detroit Free Press that Crumbley was bullied.
Crumbley’s parents, James and Jennifer, have advised their son not to talk to authorities about his motive for the shooting, investigators say. Police must get permission from a juvenile’s parents or guardian in order to speak with them, Undersheriff Mike McCabe said.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating Crumbley’s social media accounts to try to determine a motive or see if there were any red flags.
Crumbley was featured in the local Oxford Leader newspaper back in 2017 when he spoke of an elementary school group project on poverty and hunger.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday that four victims remain hospitalized at this time, and three have been treated and released.
Crumbley is due to be arraigned later today on the charges authorized earlier by the Prosecutor, and a request has been made to have him transferred from Children’s Village to the Oakland County Jail, officials said.
In investigating the incident with the school, Crumbley had been involved in a meeting over behavior issues the prior day and the day of the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office was not made aware of the meeting or became aware of any issue until after the event occurred. Nothing of concern was noted in his school file before the first meeting. There are also no documented cases of bullying of the suspect with the school, police said.
