Beyonce’s father and long time manager, Mathew Knowles said in a recent interview that it was insulting to hear comparisons between upcoming star Chloe Bailey to his daughter Beyoncé. Chloe Bailey is one half of the group – Chloe & Halle, and she has been gathering applause from record producers and industry playmakers all across America. However, Mathew Knowles doesn’t agree in the slightest bit with the recent comparisons.
According to Mr. Knowles, it is understandable for film producers to have Chloe play the role of Beyoncé in a biopic, but to be compared talent-wise is something he can’t even fathom. Knowles also claimed his daughter Beyoncé can only be compared to greats like Barbra Streisand. He thinks she’s more on that level, and nothing below. When the interviewer pressed him for more answers regarding the matter, he simply said, “move on to the next topic”.
This clearly expressed his displeasure in speaking on the matter. As for Beyoncé, well it’s clear she acknowledges the talent of Chloe, as well as her sister, being that she signed them both to her label in 2018. Talent aside, you can understand why Mathew Knowles is very sensitive about the comparisons. After all, Beyoncé has won 24 Grammys and sold more than 115 million records throughout her career. This is an achievement that will take Chloe Bailey ages, that’s if she’s ever that successful.
But let’s not forget, before Beyoncé became the legendary icon and legend she is today, she was once part of a girl-group too. It would be hard to forget a group like Destiny’s Child, as Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle took the world by storm with their soulful, pop-like rhythms. As at today, Chloe and Halle are doing well as a group, but they are nowhere close to achieving the kind of successes Destiny’s Child had. Maybe they will in future, but not yet.
Group success aside, Chloe still has to do what Beyoncé did in order to stand out and become a world-class brand on her own. And that is to leave the group and write, produce, and record hits upon hits for several decades. This is no easy feat, as not too many female artistes, and artistes in general can boast of such achievements. Even R&B legends like Brandy, Monica, and Toni Braxton never found such levels of success.
To top it all up, Beyoncé is one half of probably the most popular power couple in entertainment. She’s married to Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-z, who is also one of the most successful rappers and music business moguls of all time. There is no dispute about Chloe Bailey’s talent. Going by the music alone, she may be just as good as Beyoncé. However, success seems to be the area Mathew Knowles is more concerned about. Let’s see what the future holds for Chloe. She’s already on the right path, and being signed to an icon such as Beyoncé is certainly a step in the right direction.
