A Louisiana man faces multiple charges, including illegal use of weapons, after he allegedly shot an individual accused of stealing his vehicle, the Baton Rouge Police Department says.
Officials at the BRPD have taken Michael Calvin Pou into custody on charges that include aggravated second-degree battery and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, according to jail documents.
According to arrest reports, officers responded to the 10000 block of Cletus Drive on Saturday and found a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The victim told officers that someone shot him in the parking lot area of 2564 N. Sherwood Forest Blvd.
Pou reportedly called 911 reporting that someone stole his car from the same parking lot of the shooting incident.
Jail records show that officers arrived at the scene and found multiple shell casings in the parking lot area.
Investigators say they learned that Pou entered a business center and left his vehicle running in the parking lot.
After exiting the business center, Pou saw an unknown individual stealing his vehicle from the parking lot area.
Surveillance footage shows Pou taking out a gun and firing multiple shots at his stolen vehicle as it exited the parking lot, the arrest warrant says.
The suspected thief was reportedly hit in the back. Cops found Pou’s stolen vehicle on Bard Avenue, which had been hit several times by gunfire.
Officers searched Pou’s beige-colored SUV and reportedly spotted a semiautomatic firearm in plain view on the front passenger floorboard of the car. Michael Calvin Pou was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
