A Louisiana man was arrested after reportedly hitting a 5-week-old baby in the face because she wouldn’t stop crying, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The BRPD has arrested 23-year-old Darryl Richardson and charged him with second-degree cruelty to juveniles, the Department said.
Authorities said they responded to a cruelty to juveniles complaint on March 18 at approximately 2:40 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke to hospital staff, who told officers that the 5-week-old victim was brought to the hospital with injuries, including redness, swelling, and bruising to her left eye.
Authorities confirmed that the baby’s left eye was swollen and once the infant later opened her eye, police said there was blood on her eyeball.
After being interrogated, Richardson confessed to officers that the baby’s injuries were the result of him striking her intentionally in the face with the back of his hand after she stubbornly refused to stop crying.

Richardson was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Prison, according to WAFB.
