A Los Angeles Taco Bell worker was gunned down on Saturday night by a customer who tried to purchase a drive-thru order with a counterfeit $20 bill, according to a report.
The victim’s family identified him as Alejandro Garcia. According to Abc7, Garcia was working with his son at the fast-food restaurant when he was fatally shot at around 11 p.m.
The fatal shooting occurred after Alejandro’s son allegedly refused to accept what appeared to be a fake $20 bill from the suspected shooters, relatives told Abc7.
According to the report, one of the men opened fire during the confrontation.
Garcia’s son tried to close the drive-thru window to stop the bullets, but at least one bullet made it through and struck his dad in the torso.
“My nephew was close by so he closed the window but the shots … they went in,” Garcia’s cousin, Nancy Garcia del Sol, told the news outlet. [Garcia] got shot in the heart, and that’s what killed him, and he died there … in front of his son’s presence,” Nancy added.
No arrests were made as of Monday morning as police sought the two in connection with the shooting. The two suspects, who remain at large, are described only as males between 20 and 25 years old.
Relatives said Garcia, who left three children behind, worked one night a week at Taco Bell to help earn extra cash for his family.
Taco Bell released the following statement after the tragic incident.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear that this happened. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the team member in this difficult time. We understand the owner and operator of this location is working with the local authorities in their investigation and has reached out directly to the affected family to offer support.”
Garci’s family has created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his funeral arrangements and support his wife and three children.
