Loona has emerged as the second K-Pop girl group to chart a pop radio hit in America after Blackpink. It is not easy to break into an American radio, as DJs and programmers usually focus on names they know in order to keep audiences tuning in and from switching the dial.
According to Forbes, Loona’s new single “Star,” for the fist time kicks off on the all-pop tally at No. 40, in last place, making the group the second-ever all-female act from South Korea to land a pop radio hit in the United States after Blackpink did it few months ago with their single “Ice Cream”.
According to South Korean musical acts, Loona is now ranked sixth following other five K-Pop acts (Blackpink, BTS, Psy as well as Monsta X and BTS member Suga), who have landed on the U.S. Pop Airplay chart.
Other girl groups such as Itzy, TWICE, (G)I-Dle And Red Velvet are also expected to join Blackpink and Loona on the Pop Airplay chart shortly according to the rate K-pop figures are growing rapidly in the United States.
No wonder I have included Loona in my list of the Top 10 Best K-Pop Girl Groups of 2021.
