Deputies in Kentucky have apprehended a man accused of breaking into a former lawmaker’s home, killing his daughter in cold blood and then confronting the father with a gun.
Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said they have arrested 23-year-old Shannon Gilday around 4:30 a.m. Monday in an area close to former state Rep. Wesley Morgan’s home on Willis Branch.
On Feb. 22, Gilday broke into the home at around 4 a.m. and allegedly shot and killed Jordan Morgan, a 32-year-old lawyer, while she was sleeping in her bed, the Kentucky State Police said.
Gilday then confronted the woman’s father, Wesley Morgan, a single-term state House member who unsuccessfully challenged Sen. Mitch McConnell in the GOP primary in 2020, according to investigators.
Wesley Morgan shot back at Gilday and suffered “non-life-threatening wounds” in the shootout, according to authorities. Gilday then fled in a white car.
According to jail records, Gilday is facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, burglary, criminal mischief, and assault.
He is currently being held on a $2 million bond. The Kentucky State Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
