Since 2008, every aspect of Britney Spears’ life has been controlled by a legal conservatorship. In other words, Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, had absolute control over her personal, medical, and financial affairs. Jamie initiated the conservatorship thirteen years ago. However, the pop singer has accused her father of exploiting her.
On Wednesday afternoon at Los Angeles Superior Court , Judge Brenda J. Penny suspended Britney’s father as the conservator of the singer’s estate. For now, a certified public accountant, John Zabel, will take that role. Zabel was temporarily installed as the new conservator of Spears’ estate by Judge Penny. Moreover, Zabel’s role as Britney’s new conservator is temporary until the next court hearing, which is scheduled for Nov. 12. After that, Penny plans to free the 39-year-old star by terminating the conservatorship.
With this ruling, the Judge granted the singer her most adamant request: to fire her father instantly. During the hearing, the judge said:
“The current arrangement is untenable. It reflects a toxic environment which requires the suspension of James Spears.” According to the AP.
Last month, Jamie Spears, in a court filing, agreed to willingly step down as her daughter’s conservator. However, he did not provide the exact date. Instead, Jamie said he would do so at a convenient time.
