The coronavirus seemed to be just some sort of speculation when the Chinese government announced in 2019, how the deadly virus had dealt with her citizens. However, what seemed to be a mere speculation soon became of concern to the World Health Organization as it was beginning to spread round the world and become a global pandemic.
The virus, which is said to have started in Wuhan, China, has now gone round the world, affecting both the developed and underdeveloped countries. The United States is among the many developed nations to be hit seriously with the virus. As of May 13, 2021, the United States had recorded 32.6 million coronavirus cases with about 581 thousand deaths.
Though the risk of infection remains on the high side, there has been a decreased number of cases recorded this year compared to last year. However, a new variant, the Indian variant has recently found its way into the United Kingdom, with Bolton being the area which seem to be most affected. The new variant has sent shivers down the spine of many Bolton citizens. Not much is understood by the disease caused by the Indian variant and the disease takes a more severe course.
Health professionals have urged all Bolton dwellers to get the coronavirus vaccine. Those not eligible have been told to go for an eligibility confirmation to check their current status. Dr Helen Paul, the Health professional in charge of the vaccination program in Bolton has urged Bolton dwellers to attend the vaccination program even if they aren’t eligible. She said in a Facebook video, ‘If you’re not sure if you’re eligible, get yourself down here today and we will check it out for you.’
The NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group also agreed to the words of Dr Helen Paul. The group went on to support the coronavirus vaccination by urging everyone who has been registered with a general practitioner in Bolton to visit the vaccination centre, although, they have to be above the age of 38. However, individuals of all ages have been found queueing at the vaccination bus out of fear of getting infected by the new deadly variant.
The warnings on the age eligibility didn’t seem to matter much to many as the numbers continue to increase. An anonymous person at the vaccination bus also expressed his shock at the incident. According to him “It’s unbelievable how many people have turned up. ‘There are thousands of all ages and ethnicities queuing patiently to get a jab. The vaccinators seem to be accepting anyone and everyone”.
Blackburn, which is a neighboring city, has followed the footsteps of the Bolton fellows and has urged all those above the age of 18 to get vaccinated. However, they have now decided to follow Government principles that only those above 38 should be vaccinated. Meanwhile, scientist have asked the Government to support the vaccination programs in other parts of America and not just the areas that are severely hit by the virus.
