There is a strong probability that the human remains discovered in a Florida park on Wednesday belong to Brian Laundrie, the family’s lawyer said Wednesday night. The Laundries attorney, Steven Bertolino, in an interview, told CNN that the newly found human remains might belong to Brian. However, he also said the family is not sure until the forensic results come out.
A notebook and a backpack belonging to Brian were also discovered in the park on Wednesday, the same day the fugitive’s parents, Chris and Roberta, joined investigators to help search for their missing son.
The human remains, the notebook, and the backpack were discovered near a bridge that connects the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park and adjoining Carlton Reserve, according to Bertolino.
“Chris and Roberta Laundrie were at the reserve earlier today when human remains and some of Brian’s possessions were located in an area where they had initially advised law enforcement that Brian may be. Chris and Roberta will wait for the forensic identification of the human remains before making any additional comments,” Bertolino told Fox News.
Michael McPherson, a special agent in charge of the FBI’s Tampa division, said the remains and items were discovered in a swampy area — home to alligators, snakes, coyotes and other wildlife — that had previously been underwater.
