Houston police are investigating an incident that occurred on Saturday when a gunman opened fire at George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece’s home and shot the girl while sleeping in her bed.
The girl, Arianna, was shot in the torso and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition after emergency surgery, police said. According to ABC 13 Houston, the bullet pierced Arianna’s lung and liver and also broke three ribs. She was identified by her family as Floyd’s niece.
There were four adults and two other children in the Houston apartment around 3 a.m. when it was riddled with bullets.
Police said during a press conference that it was not immediately clear if it was one person or multiple people who fired the shots. Currently, authorities have no suspects and don’t know a possible motive.
Arianna was sleeping in her room when she was shot, ABC 13 Houston said. She has, on different occasions, participated in marches and rallies alongside her family, calling for justice for her late uncle.
