A convicted Georgia felon with a “lengthy criminal history” was out on parole when he reportedly shot and killed his neighbor during a quarrel this weekend, authorities said.
The 35-year-old convicted felon, Lamarion Sharod Banks, of Griffin, was on active probation when he was apprehended on Friday for the murder of 46-year-old Rafaeil Thomas.
According to The Griffin Police Department, responding officers arrived at the 100 block of West Tinsley Street around 7 p.m. after a witness called to report a person being shot. Officer, upon their arrival, found Thomas on the ground suffering from a shot in the upper body. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Witnesses told detectives that Thomas and Banks had been arguing before the shooting. However, investigators are still looking into the potential motive for the killing. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Banks’ address located a few doors down the same street, where they found a 9mm handgun with the same type and brand of ammunition recovered from the scene of the shooting, according to the department.
Banks was arrested and charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
