A 46-year-old Florida woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after she allegedly threw a 3-year-old dog named Bucky, belonging to her boyfriend, off of a seventh-floor balcony during an argument, authorities said.
The ex-boyfriend, Eric Adeson, told Clearwater police officers that the woman, whom he had dated for several months, also threw his other personal belongings including his keys and cellphone over the balcony on Sunday. The dog was found dead on the street below the apartment, according to police.
Adeson told Fox 13 Tampa Bay that his girlfriend laughed before throwing the dog to its death.
On Monday, Adeson’s attorney, Katherine Neal, filed a civil complaint against the woman, seeking $30,000 in damages.
According to the complaint, Adeson had ended his relationship with the woman in February, but she recently show up at Adeson’s house drunk and being verbally aggressive toward him.
She refused to leave when Adeson asked to. She instead picked up the dog and threw it over the balcony, according to Fox 4.
According to Adeson, he adopted Bucky as a puppy when his 10-year-old dog named Sandy was undergoing cancer treatments. Ever since Sandy’s recovery from its cancer treatments, the two dogs had been playmates, Adeson said.
“He (Bucky) just actually had his third birthday,” Adeson said. “I never thought that Sandy would outlive Bucky.”
The woman was arrested on Monday and charged with criminal mischief and domestic battery, according to Pinellas County jail records.
