Last Tuesday, authorities in Florida released pictures and a video of a suspect in connection to the vicious murders of a Daytona Beach couple stabbed to death while heading home from bike week.
After seeing the picture of the suspect on in the news, Valerie Court, a restaurant worker in Ocean Walk, realized that person ate and paid with a credit card on Saturday, March 5 at the restaurant where she works. Court said she was the one who served the suspect.
Court said she remembered the suspect, now identified as Jean Macean, as a man who entered the eatery on the day prior to the murders and sat at her table for a late lunch dressed in the same outfit, carrying a backpack.
“I thought maybe he wanted to be left alone because he was short-worded with me so I just kept his tea filled up,” she told Wesh.
On Sunday morning, Terry and Brenda Aultman were viciously stabbed as they were riding bikes home from a bike week event. When the suspect’s picture hit the news, Court remembered Macean paid with a credit card and got a receipt.
“It didn’t have his name on it. It said my temporary pay card but he did initially sign it JM,” she said.
Investigators were able to track suspect Jean Macean down using that receipt to a location in Orlando where he was later busted.
“I wanted to catch this guy. I wanted to help the police department and help the community and catch him and get him. I knew I had valuable information,” Court said.
Court informed cops before the department offered a $50,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the killer’s arrest. Court’s information at least in part, was undoubtfully crucial. However, the station has not yet determined if Court will be paid.
“I didn’t do it for the reward, I did it for the police department to help get a dangerous person off the street. I’m very happy that I was able to help them,” Court said.
Knowing that the suspect is in custody, Valerie Court is now relieved that a suspect has been identified and arrested in connection to the gruesome murders.
