A Florida personal injury attorney has been disbarred after she allegedly struck four civilians with her car in a parking lot because she was hearing voices in her head, telling her to execute the people.
The 31-year-old former attorney, Beatrice Bijoux, faced four counts of attempted murder charges after she reportedly mounted the sidewalk and mowed down four pedestrians who were standing outside a Fort Lauderdale grocery store in February, police said.
Bijoux told detectives that “voices in her head had instructed her to kill the people” according to an arrest report obtained by the Miami Herald.
Bijoux was reportedly driving at full speed and did not attempt to slow down during the attack, police said. After crushing the four people with her car, Bijoux reversed at a high rate of speed and attempted to strike another pedestrian, surveillance video showed.
Bijoux, who had represented several victims of such incidents in the past, has since been disbarred after the state Supreme Court approved the Florida Bar’s emergency request to suspend her.
She was admitted to the state’s bar association back in 2016.
She has been charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of high speed or wanton fleeing, and four counts of attempted murder. Bijoux is being held without a bond.
