Florida State Gov. Ron DeSantis is warning migrants who crossed the Texas-Mexico border not to enter the Sunshine State after a bus dropped off a bunch of migrants at the US Capitol. The governor issued the warning after several migrants said they plan to head to Miami.
On Wednesday morning, 23 migrants from Texas were dropped off at the foot of the US Capitol, as part of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s new plan to counter federal immigration policies during the ongoing border crisis.
The migrants told Fox News reporters that Miami is their next destination and they are planning to head down there likely by train. The bus, which was conducted by the Texas Department of Emergency Management, stopped in D.C. and is not continuing to Florida. As a result, migrants would have to find their way down to the Sunshine State.
However, DeSantis is having a serious issue with the fact that migrants are planning to head to his state, resulting in his executive office issuing a clear warning: “Do not come.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital on Wednesday, DeSantis’ executive office exclusively said:
“To those who have entered the country illegally, fair warning: do not come to Florida. Life will not be easy for you, because we are obligated to uphold the immigration laws of this country, even if our federal government and other states won’t.”
“Florida is not a sanctuary state, and our social programs are designed to serve the citizens of our state. The governor will protect the sovereignty of the state of Florida,” the statement continued.
The office also accused the Biden administration of putting migrants’ physical health at risk by encouraging them to “make dangerous treks” and putting their lives in the hands of human traffickers.
“If you have come here illegally, you have been done a great disservice by the Biden Administration. They have encouraged you to make dangerous treks, oftentimes at great physical distress to you and your family. Sometimes, this has even meant putting your fate into the hands of dangerous coyotes and human traffickers.”
“There is a legal process to obtain full American citizenship, which is an essential part of the promise of America. In Florida, we will uphold the law,” the statement concluded.
At approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the bus full of migrants from Texas pulled up just blocks away from the U.S Capitol. The migrants were reportedly coming to the U.S from Columbia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, Fox News reported.
As soon as the bus reached its final destination in D.C, migrants disembarked one by one and checked in which officials who cut off the wristbands they were wearing before telling them to go. The group included 19 men, one woman, and three female children.
“As the federal government continues to turn a blind eye to the border crisis, the State of Texas will remain steadfast in our efforts to fill in the gaps and keep Texans safe,” Abbott said in a press release Wednesday.
“By busing migrants to Washington, D.C., the Biden Administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border,” Abbott said Wednesday. “Texas should not have to bear the burden of the Biden Administration’s failure to secure our border.”
