Florida troopers arrested a driving instructor for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Gregory Sorensen was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol officers on Friday night after troopers said he was drunk while driving in New Port Richey. Troopers said they found an open pack of Natural Light beer in the back seat of Sorensen’s car, which is adorned with student-driver decals.
Troopers said they pulled Sorensen at approximately 11:40 in the night because was drifting in his lane. The officers said they stopped the driver to check if he was suffering from a health condition.
Sorensen told the troopers he was fine after they asked him if he was okay. However, troopers said Sorenson’s breath was smelling alcohol, and he also slurred his speech. In addition, troopers said Sorensen had bloodshot and watery eyes.
Sorensen gave troopers his Chase credit card when they asked for his driver’s license. While Sorensen was still searching for his license, troopers spotted an open 24-pack of beer in the back seat of his vehicle. At that point, Sorensen was ordered to get out of the car, according to Fox13.
Sorensen struggled to get out of the car and underwent two breathalyzer tests, which showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.226 and 0.208, which is more than double the legal limit in the State of Florida. Sorensen was booked into the Pasco County Jail on DUI charges.
