A Florida police officer shot a dog that was attacking a woman. The incident occurred in Broward County on Tuesday morning.
According to the Lauderhill Police Department, the patrol officer was in the area of the 5400 block of NW 18th Court when he saw a woman being attacked by a pit bull as she attempted to protect her small dog. The officer immediately jumped the fence and ran to help the woman.
The department said the officer was forced to shoot the dog in an attempt to save the woman from being mauled. The wounded pit bull ran to a nearby house.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for bite wounds on her legs. The pit bull was taken to an animal hospital with no word on the extent of its injuries.
