Former UCF, NLF player Otis Anderson Jr. was shot and killed by his father during a dispute about a dog bite in Jacksonville, Florida, authorities said.
The 23-year-old former University of Central Florida running back died on Monday in Jacksonville after his father, Otis Anderson Sr., shot him over a bite. Anderson Sr. shot and killed his son because he was bitten by a dog that belongs to his son’s girlfriend, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Anderson’s mother, Denise, told authorities that her husband got furious after being bitten by the dog, setting off a confrontation between the three that escalated to gunfire, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
When cops arrived at the scene, they found Anderson with at least one gunshot wound to the chest and Denise with multiple graze wounds. Both Anderson and his mother were transported to the nearest hospital. Anderson Jr., however, did not survive. His mother was treated and released, according to the Sentinel report.
Anderson Sr., 52, who remains held without bond Wednesday, faces charges of murder and attempted murder. He will appear in court on December 22.
UCF Football tweeted a tribute Tuesday to Anderson, whose nickname was “Juice.”
