The parents of the Michigan high school shooter, James, and Jennifer Crumbley, were found on Saturday morning in the basement of a Detroit building following a manhunt, according to local reports.
Jennifer and James Crumbley disappeared hours after Oakland County prosecutors charged them each with involuntary manslaughter in connection with their son Ethan Crumbley’s horrific attack. The couple was apprehended after several hours of manhunt.
The couple parked their SUV in front of a building the Motor City, some 50 miles from their Oxford home, just before 2 a.m., Fox 2 reported. Federal agents discovered James and Jennifer inside the building where their vehicle was parked, the report said.
According to The Detroit Free Press, the owner of the building informed police after recognizing the out-of-place vehicle from media reports.
Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe told the newspaper that Jennifer and James are both in custody and will be on the way to the Oakland County Jail soon. “Kudos to Detroit PD and all the other agencies that assisted,” Mike McCabe said.
The Crumbleys were supposed to turn themselves in after being charged in their son’s case. However, the couple decided to hide instead. Local cops and federal authorities announced on Friday afternoon that they were searching for the Crumbleys.
The couple’s attorneys maintained that the pair had left town for their safety and were not trying to hide from law enforcement.
