Canadian singer Justin Bieber took to Intagram on Wednesday to talk about his opinion on Black Lives Matter movement. The 26-year-old singer wrote about what really matters to him.
“Some may say what good does it do to post “black lives matter.” I’ll tell you why.. I want everyone to know what matters to me. I want people to know what is heavy on my heart. I want people to know I haven’t forgotten. I want to use the platform I have to remind people that racism is evil and it is ingrained in our culture. I want my black brothers and sisters to feel supported, seen and valued. If this bothers you I just want you to know I’m not going to stop talking about it. Ever.”
Justin’s opinion drew mix reaction from fans both positive and negative. Don’t change the subject, Justin replied fans who said “ALL LIVES MATTER” not just one race.
Saying black lives matter doesn’t mean that other lives don’t matter, Justin wrote.
“You can’t deny that racism is ingrained in our culture. It is straight up mean to change the subject to something you believe matters equally or not. Why can’t black lives just simply matter.”
The popularity of Black Lives Matter has rapidly shifted over time. Whereas public opinion on Black Lives Matter was net negative in 2018, it grew increasingly popular through 2019 and 2020. A June 2020 Pew Research Center poll found that the majority of Americans, across all racial and ethnic groups, have expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
