ESPN legend Dick Vitale is overwhelmed with great joy after learning on Thursday that he is free from cancer after battling the disease for seven months.
Vitale announced the uplifting news outside Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida with immense joy.
The 83-year-old basketball sportscaster thanked his doctor, Richard Brown, and credited the late Jim Valvano for his famous and inspirational speech: “Don’t Give up Don’t Ever Give Up!”
“It was RING THE BELL TIME ! Yes, it was a tough 7 months but it was super hearing Dr. Brown @SMHCS say that I have zero cancer currently, Vitale wrote on Twitter. I was inspired daily by the famous words of my late buddy Jimmy V “Don’t Give up DON’T EVER GIVE UP!”
Vitale has raised over fifty million dollars to combat pediatric cancer for the Valvano-inspired V Foundation.
The broadcaster told The Post that his goals were to live seven more years so he can witness all of his grandchildren’s college graduation and eleven more years for good measure to call a basketball game for ESPN at hundred years old.
Throughout his battle with the disease, Vitale shared inspirational videos with his followers on social media, both chronicling his own tribulations and seeking to motivate others.
