Glastonbury, Connecticut — An 8-year-old Boston terrier named Henry has been praised by its owners for saving the life of their 9-month-old baby. What a good boy Henry is!
Henry’s Owners, Kelly and Jeff Dowling said their pup would not rest on Monday night when he multiple times barged into their daughter’s nursery and tried to wake the baby.
The parents told ABC 6 that their dog usually puts himself to bed and kind of keeps to himself. However, Henry refused to go to bed that night, and according to his owners, the dog was headbutting the door open and going into the baby’s room and standing there.
“Every time I shooed him away, he would go back in as soon as my back was turned,” Kelly Dowling said.
While the parents knew their child had a cold, henry sensed the baby’s symptoms were worsening.
“She wasn’t clearing her airway. She started to turn blue and go rigid. She really couldn’t get air, or any oxygen,” Kelly Dowling said.
The parents rushed their baby girl to the hospital, where doctors were able to clear out her airways and discharge her soon after.
Taking to Twitter, Kelly Dowling said she didn’t know what would have happened if Henry hadn’t woken the baby up, adding that “We don’t deserve dogs.”
The Dowlings have subsequently decided to spoil their hero pup this Christmas.
“Henry was allowed to sleep in bed with me last night, and he’s got a steak in his future,” Jeff Dowling said, with his wife adding that the dog has never done anything quite so heroic before.
The 9-month-old baby girl is now recovering from the nasty cold she suffered from, as described by doctors. As for Henry, he has spent the last two days being treated like the king of the castle, which his owners say is no different than any other day.
Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone; Kelly wrote on Twitter. The baby is doing much better today, and we are home with Henry, who bravely held the fort all night even though he is scared of the dark.
