‘Nomadland’ Director Chloe Zhao will write, direct, and produce a new Dracula movie for Universal Pictures. The film will be a new take on the Dracula story and is described as an, “original, futuristic, sci-fi Western.”
The 38-year-old Chinese award winning filmmaker expressed her excitement about the project in a release saying: “I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody. I’m very glad to work with Donna [Langley], Peter [Levinsohn] and the Universal team to reimagine such an incredible character.”
Universal Pictures president, Peter Cramer, also stated: “Chloé’s singular lens shines a light on stories of the overlooked and misunderstood. We are thrilled to be working with her as she reimagines one of the most iconic outsider characters ever created.” Said Peter Cramer.
Originally created by Irish author Bram Stoker in his 1897 gothic horror novel, Dracula has been assigned to many literary genres including vampire literature, gothic fiction, horror fiction, and invasion literature.
Zhao made history on Wednesday as the first Asian woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe for best director for “Nomadland.”
