Marina Verbitsky, with her husband and son, arrived at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport terminal on Monday night. But they came very late: The plane was about to take off.
Verbitsky told a Jetblue airline employee that she needed to board the plane at all cost so her son wouldn’t miss school. Her family reported to the Chicago Suntimes. Verbitsky became furious when an employee said that her checked luggage was on the departing plane. That was when she came to the conclusion that she had to make a false bomb threat. In other words, Verbitsky allegedly told airline workers her luggage contained a bomb.
After uttering the word “Bomb‘, alarm was raised, and Verbitsky was immediately arrested. Airport securities swiftly showed up at the scene as the plane’s take-off time was delayed.
Officials said in a statement on Tuesday. Passengers began rushing down from the plane as Police were trying to locate the bomb in the aircraft. But it turned out Verbitsky lied. Police found no bomb in her luggage.
Verbitsky has been charged with one count of false reporting concerning planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction. The sheriff’s office report. According to the state’s attorney’s office, Verbitsky’s bail was set at $10,000 was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. She posted bail on Tuesday.
“It was a mistake,” a relative of Verbitsky, anonymously told the Chicago Sun-Times. “She was nervous about the son needing to go to school. It was a mess, but it was definitely not meant to be.”
Verbitsky is the second person to make a false bomb threat at the same airport recently.
