A Texas carjacker died in a crash minutes after he brutally attacked a great-grandmother. The perpetrator reportedly crashed the stolen vehicle last week in San Antonio.
The 72-year-old victim, Shirlene Hernandez, parked her vehicle in a San Antonio store’s parking lot and was walking into the store when the thief approached and grabbed her car keys, punched her multiple times in the face, WBRC reported.
Three good Samaritans came to the elderly woman’s aid, but they could not capture the crazed carjacker, who stole her car and drove off in an uncontrolled excitement, according to the report.
However, the suspect’s joyride was short-lived. He was found dead in the stolen car on a nearby highway minutes after attacking Hernandez, the local outlet reported.
“There’s a lot of people who would say what goes around comes around, karma. I did not think that; the only thing I got (was) really sad because he had died,” Hernandez reportedly said.
“Now granted, he had hurt me, but the Lord saw fit to take him out of his misery.”
Hernandez is recovering from her beating but is unable to get to work without her car.
A GoFundMe page had raised almost $28,000 by Tuesday night to replace Hernandez’s car.
