Brian Laundrie’s bones have been transferred to an anthropologist for further evaluation after his autopsy didn’t reveal any cause or manner of death, TMZ has learned.
The Laundries’ attorney, Steven Bertolino, told TMZ on Friday that Brian’s autopsy had been completed. However, no manner or cause of death could be identified through his remains. Bertolino told the outlet that the next step would be to send Brian’s bones to an anthropologist for further examination.
It is not clear why the anthropologist is getting involved. Still, according to online studies, anthropologists are usually invited into matters when human remains are too far along in the decomposition process to determine a cause of death using a soft tissue.
Brian Laundrie’s remains were first discovered along with his backpack and notebook on Wednesday on a Florida trail. Authorities have positively confirmed the remains were Brian’s thanks to dental records.
It is quite apparent that Brian’s body had been decomposing in the area for weeks, investigators say. Brian’s remains had been in an area that was underwater prior to investigators discovering them.
Gabby Petito’s family has not officially made any comment on the discovery.
