Gabby Petito’s family lawyer revealed on Tuesday that Brian Laundrie used Gabby’s credit card in Wyoming, three days after the 22-year-old was seen alive. Gabby was last seen alive at a Wyoming restaurant on Aug 27, while 23-year-old Brian returned home alone in her van on Sept. 1. Brian has since been on the run from authorities.
In an interview with CBS-TV on Tuesday, Gabby’s family attorney Richard Stafford revealed Brian stole Gabby’s credit card, which he used to get home and then run from the cops. “That’s going to show a lot what he was thinking back then,” Stafford said.
On September 23, an arrest warrant for Brian was issued by Federal authorities in Wyoming. He is currently wanted for allegedly using a stolen card in August to obtain things of value aggregating to $1,000 or more. However, the FBI had not identified the card’s owner and had not said it was Gabby.
Gabby was found dead at a campground in Wyoming. Her death has been classified as a homicide. Brian refused to talk to authorities after returning to his parents’ home without his girlfriend on Sept. 1. The fugitive left his parents’ house for hiking on Sept. 14 and never returned.
More serious charges are coming for Brian Laundrie if he’s found alive, a Florida prosecutor said on Tuesday. Earlier this week, a hiker believed he met and spoke with fugitive Brian Laundrie on the Appalachian. Dennis Davis told a North Carolina Sheriff’s Office dispatcher that he is 99.99% sure it was him.
